One of the iconic locations of Zakynthos are the Blue Caves. Located on the North side of the island, these caves create for a mesmerizing sight you will never forget.
What are the Blue Caves?
The Blue Caves are a series of geological formations formed naturally over time by erosion. They first start appearing near Agios Nikolaos and extend to Skinari Cape. The area features a series of limestone arches and caves which boats with extremely experienced captains can travel through, navigating the narrow caves and arches deems challenging with the waves.
What makes these natural wonders so spectacular is the unique color of the water found within. As light reflects off the water, it casts an enchanting blue hue on everything that comes into contact with it, including the rocks inside the cave.
Visiting The Blue Caves
The Blue Caves are only accessible by water, therefore you need to explore them with a boat. Sailing through the Blue Caves is a mesmerizing experience. If you dare to dive in the crystal clear blue water inside the cave you will find yourself surrounded by the vibrant blue. The Blue Caves are therefore a popular spot among divers.
If you want to see this natural phenomenon, we advice to go early in the morning when the light is brightest. However, during sunset the sea takes on the colors of the sky, creating an equally as unique sight.
